Living accommodations

Funland provides living accommodations for 27 young men via two dormitories located adjacent to the park. There is a lobby/dining room which contains furnishings, a TV, and exercise area. Each dorm room houses 2-3 occupants. Listed below are the most important dormitory rules:
  • No smoking.
  • No alcoholic beverages.
  • No refrigerators.
  • No TVs.
  • Keep the noise down.
  • Keep the rooms clean.
  • Respect your dorm mates and their personal property.
  • Only dorm crew Funlanders allowed in dorm.
"Dorm Dwellers" are provided with one meal (dinner) each day. Snacking items (peanut butter & jelly, bread, and any dinner left-overs) and beverages (lemonade, punch, and milk) are also provided. Although the main kitchen facilities are for our chef's use only, you will have access to a refrigerator, a toaster and a small oven in the event you want to be self-sufficient for breakfast and lunch. You will be responsible for doing your own laundry except for Funland shirts, blue jeans, tan shorts, and bed linens. There is a Laundromat located within walking distance of the dorm.

Living accommodations for women

Funland sub-leases apartments to young women who do not reside locally. Each apartment is air conditioned, has a kitchen, common living area, is furnished, and has ample space to accommodate 4 or 5 women. All of our apartments are located within walking distance of the park. Funland pays the utility expenses and subsidizes approximately 20% of the rent making it more affordable for tenants. Seasonal rent totals $1200 and is payable in weekly installments of $125 starting the second pay envelope. "Apartment Dwellers" are required to pay a deposit of $300. This is applied toward the seasonal rent, so that by the end of the 6th or 7th week of employment, the rent is paid in full.

Transportation

Rehoboth Beach has a public transportation system which gives employees easy access to shopping outlets, restaurants, and other attractions in the immediate area. For transportation from the airport will be arranged through the student center. Please contact Chris Darr for further information.

Parking is available at Funland for local employees but we encourage carpooling since parking is limited.

Pay - dorm dwellers

All first-year dorm employees earn a salary of $290 per week (room, dinner, and uniform laundry included), working 45-50 hours per week. This salary is paid until 09/03/2010. Starting 09/03/2010, Dorm Dwellers will be paid on an hourly basis earning $10.00/hour. During this time, living accommodations will continue to be provided, but there will be no meals or laundry service.

Pay - hourly employees

Ride/Game Attendants (Non-Dormitory, 16 and over years of age) start at $8.00/hour, working an average of 40 hours per week.

Bonus

Employees have the opportunity earn even more money by way of an End-Of-the-Season Bonus. This bonus is variable; determined by one's performance and by the length of their employment at Funland. The earning potential is an additional $1.00/hour for all hours worked through Labor Day.

Wage increase

During the last three weeks of our business season all employees will receive an attractive wage increase. This is in addition to the base wage/salary and bonus mentioned above. Ask for details!

Starting / ending dates

Funland will be open weekends only from Mother's Day Weekend (05/08-05/09/2010) through Memorial Day weekend (05/28-05/31/2010). Starting 05/28/2010 we will be open every day until our last day which is 09/12/2010.

If you are chosen to be a Funlander, it is important for you to understand that you are committing yourself to work during as much of our season as possible. The end-of-the-season bonus will be affected by your commitment. It will be requested that you take your personal time during your scheduled days off.

Child labor laws

Current child labor laws restrict our hiring of those who are under 16 years of age. The law states that minors of this age are not permitted to operate ride machinery or work more than 40 hours per week. Obviously this limits our hiring of full-time employees to those who are 16 years of age or older. However, we do have a limited number of part-time positions available for 14 and 15 year-olds as game attendants. Working hours are primarily in the morning and afternoon.
